I think you need to read up on your history. The region of Palestine as administered by Britain after the collapse of the Ottoman Empire was vastly majority arab. You make it sound like it was 99% Jewish!!!! It wasn't given statehood then or by the League of Nations either. The Balfour Declaration quite clearly stated that any notion of a Jewish 'homeland' would be dependent on said 'homeland' not impacting detrimentally on the existing - majority arab - population.
