"Like similar Jewish neighborhoods in East Jerusalem, it was abandoned during the 1920s and 1930s, in part because of harassment by Arab neighbors". If there has to be some kind of settlement, it shouldn't be on the backs of Jews and Jewish families who were expelled in the wake of Palestinian Arab violence. There is no point in being too righteous with people who know that they are sitting in other people's houses. This Ard al Arab business began fifteen hundred years ago. It's was a matter of Islamic armies removing Byzantine Roman armies who were there by virtue of earlier Roman conquests that went back six hundred years before. The only reason it was called Palestine was that a Roman Emperor thought a name change would change Jewish sentiments toward the Land of Israel. It didn't. Again, if there has to be some kind of settlement, let it be, but our sages have warned us that anyone who kind to people who are cruel, will be cruel to people who are kind.
