the Israelis brought this crisis, in its present form, upon themselves. As a (rapidly fading) Israel supporter I am appalled at the ineptitude and impotence of the current Israelis decision makers. Every people has the government it deserves! What Israeli hasn't known of the gathering threat of Hitzbollah at their Lebanese border! Yet, they fell in love with their charge accounts, and voted for the non-Netanyahu, a political hack who is touch with his softer side. The Israeli electorate is getting Precisely what it voted for; it appears they opted to sacrifice the lives of their sons. For what? Just as our electorate chose to see the first Trade Center attack, Khobar, the attacks on our African embassies, the killing of 200 US marines, and the attack on USS Cole, as law enforcement matters. The only player who merits grudging respect is the Hitzbollah leader, Nasrallah: he has the strength of will to stay his course. Maybe, if the Israelis offer Nasrallah a sufficient signing bonus...

Our craving for ideology means that we are partial to ideological leaders. But we need leaders who will make smart decisions that are aligned with the public interest.
