The deal itself recognizes Israel and makes the right of return to the lands of 1967 and not the lands of 1948. Having a Palestinian State declared in the UN is thus in American and Israeli Interest. The problem is that Palestinians themselves do not all agree on the deal. Hamas does not recognize it thus it is possible that a state is created but that its future is ruled by Hamas (which does not recognize Israel). Therefore it is important that before Palestine is declared a vote is taken and a majority of Palestinians vote to approve the two state solution (thus ending the right of return to the lands of 1948).IF a majority of Palestinians support the 2 state solution then great, and a Palestinian State will be beneficial to both parties. Thus the US can tell the Palestinians, we will recognize Palestine if the majority of Palestinians want a 2 state solution with a commitment to the recognition and security of Israel. if not then a future Palestine will be a loss to both sides.
