One of the saddest thing and the most damaging thing the Palestinians have suffered for a long time, is a leadership that is smart, with a vision for the future and committed to democracy and accountablity. Arafat and his PLO are nothing but corrupt, incompetent, and dictatrial organization. Mistakes were made way back in the 20's and the arming of the Second Intifada was not only a big mistake, it was nothing but a distater and treasonable offence on the part of Arafat. Couple of weeks ago, we hosted in my house some 30 people from around the world to train Palestinian in non-violence, in peaceful and consistent demonstration until the Occupation end. It is too bad that Palestinians society sees peaceful movements as "sissy" movements and see the bearing of "guns" as matcho. I never believed that the Palestine/Israel conflict will be resolved by the force of arms. Israel with all of its military might, and the billions given by the US is unable to reach a final military solution to the Palestinian problem. How did Arafat and the leaderhip think that military solution on their part could solve the problem no one knows,. but this shows the complete incompetency, if not stupidity on the part of the late Arafat. With the right leadership, the Palestinians could have stopped the re-occupation by Israel, only if hundreds of thousands have gone out to the streets. I continue to beleive that only a massive peaceful Palestinian movement could bring an end to the Occupation. Let Israel shoot and kill thousands of these peaceful demonstrators, the world will bring the Occupation to an end. The Palestinians lacking of vision, allowed Israel to commit the murder of thousands of people in a "retail" fashion without gaining any thing. Suicide bombing and the use of these stupid and useless"qassam rockets" is nothing but a joke and it is used to promote local politics rather than liberation. Never understood why the Palestinians never put down a comprehensive plan for ending the occupation. Arafat and his leaderships was the worst thing that could ever happen to the Palestinians, in my book he ranks second after Israel in damage to the Palestinian cause.
