The UN divided Palestine into two parts in 1947 and the arabs understandably objected because it was their land being divided. Israel then unilaterally declared itself a state and simply took the land by force expelling about 700,000 arabs from their homes in the process and has ever since refused to allow them to return. Israel continued to occupy more arab land (including land of neighboring countries)--primarily after the '67 war and now settles that arab land with Israelis quite against international law. Is it any wonder that the Palestinians are frustrated and want to declare themselves a state?
