While Palestinian American may underestimate the degree of political shake-up required to undermine US support for Israel, his/her analysis is generally sound. The US has little interest in ME democracy, and plays a large role in propping up the current totalitarian governments. It is oil, and our current status as sole world superpower, that provide the desire and ability to support Israel. The oil will begin to run out over the next few decades, and US (global) and Israeli (regional) dominance will wane as China and India rise. Whether you like it or not, the US will have little time or money for Israel in the not-so-distant future. The Arab world, as well, used to rule an empire, and they won't stay at the bottom of the heap forever. Within a century, or so, Israel will have to face populous neighbors pretty much on her own. Short-term thinking leads to short-term survival.
