Whilst on one hand Pacifici's foresight regarding Grillo might be taken into consideration, two elements discredit Pacifici's view. The first is his support for Berlusconi and the second is his talking about "the italians" as if they were a separate entity from the italian jewish community. Traditionally the italian jewish citizens have thought of themselves as Italians of Jewish religion and not as Jewish leaving in Italy. If Pacifici intends with his declarations to exacerbate the division, he is working against the interests of his own community, against the Ecumenical efforts of the Vatican and against common sense. Grillo is a potential danger for democracy, but to isolate him only the argument of improved transparency in italian politics can succeed. As far as Israel is concerned, one can legitimately be against the policies of the State of Israel, without being anti-jewish
