Oz represents ideal humanism, which socialism that Oz believes in, pretty much is. Oz is true to socialism's ideal perceptions of reality and people instead of acknowledging them for what they are: Oz replaces the truth with idealism. This I do not like. Here lies the distortion that makes Oz's opinions untrustworthy, bc they appear all too naive, estranged from reality and hence from the truth. Oz is an "Alice in Wonderland". Israel has to be built on facts and against the true nature of her enemies and not on idealism that the Oslo Accords are. Idealism is a shortcut to hell. The failed Soviet Union is a concrete example of this. A 75 year old disaster and now the Oslo Accords have become another disaster, that have already lasted 20 years. To Israel idealism is self-destructive. Netanyahu is a realist, sometimes passionately, which actually is a part of his attraction. If Netanyahu becomes fanatic,he will lose his credibility. But don't we all feel passionately about Zionism, bc we love Israel and Netanyahu most definately has a passion for Israel. This is why I like him; Netanyahu makes me feel safe, and for as long as Netanyahu is in the reins I can be sure that there is Israel today and still tomorrow. Israelis need to feel safe they do not need idealism, bc the minute Israelis become idealists, we risk losing Isael, bc the truth is that we cannot trust our enemies, and the reality is that they show their accumulating belligerency and hostility to Israel on daily basis and they openly and determined declare that their goal is to destroy Israel. That Oz is deaf and blind to these facts and living in denial of them is of course sad for him, but it is unfair of Oz to suggest that rational Israelis 'd share his pyschosis. Therefore it is desirable that Oz sticks to writing his books and stays out of the politics.

from the article: Netanyahu government is Israel's most anti-Zionist ever, says Amoz Oz
