Ownership and Sovereignity are two different things. When the US took the Southwest from Mexico, legal ownership of lands did not change, only the sovereignity over the lands. There was no inherent right just to take and use somebody else's property. If ownership, as some may argue here, went to Israel, the outpost people still are stealing the land, but from Israel. They are still criminals. However, as pointed out, Israel does not claim ownership or sovereignity. Hence the land is still stolen in an effort to gain something for nothing and as an act intended to intimidate the Israeli government into changing it policies.
