Overthrowing the ayatollahs would probably be the worst thing that could happen to the region. The ayatollahs are an enemy we know and they enforce their will in Iran. The people might not like them but there is stability and everybody knows the rules but you overthrow them and you could end up with another Iraq. Saddam Hussain was cruel to his own people and nobody liked him but he ket order. we got rid of him and we got chaos. For Israel the ayatollahs are the enemy we know as is Ahmadinejad and we know how to deal with them and we also have the west on our side against them. Overthrow them and lets say we get somebody like Mousavi who claims to be a reformer but in reality is nothing of the sort and wants nukes just as much as Ahmadinejad. He would say the sort of things that America likes to hear ( democracy, reform ) and so it would mean a lifting of all sanctions and nobody would want to put to much pressure on Mousavi over issues like nuclear because they would all be desperate to strenghen the so called reformer. Right now Israel needs a controlled Iran and Obama should not repeat George Bushes mistakes of wanting to promote democracy around the world we need to consider whats good for every country but Iran and that means stability and control rather than promoting democracy and reform but with unknown consequenses.
