Many countries in Asia and Africa today are overpopulated and cannot produce enough food to feed therir populations, which are mostly poor. This includes the Arab countries. The unchecked rate of population growth in these countries will only make the situation worse. As the 18th-century clergyman Thomas Malthus wrote, "The power of population is indefinitely greater than the power in the earth to produce subsistence for man". Third-World coutries will either have to check their population growth or collapse.
