If the Talmud says what Ovadia says, then I have to say both Ovadia and that portion of the Talmud are stupid. The only justification I can see for the Talmud's position is that it was a purely academic discussion amongst Rabbis who had little contact with the "Goyim," and when they did have contact with them, it was in a subservient position to the "Goyim." For Ovadia to take this position in the 20th or 21st centuries is criminal stupidity, in that it is inflammatory, provocative, and clearly against the interest of all Jews, wherever they are, not to mention plain false. It shows how far out-of-touch with reality he is, and how richly he deserves to be defrocked and mocked.
