Our friendship with the US sometimes reminds me bear's hug. It seems like US wants Israel to take part in "democratization of the ME" and to do in Syria what US does in Iraq. But demanding democracy from Arabs is like demanding first graders to learn theory of relativity. It is simply doomed to failure. Those who believe, that Arabs don't have democracy because of despotic rulers put car before the horse, in fact, Arabs have despotic rulers because they are not ready for democracy. Iraq now is the proof. Let's say, the US succeeds to prevent dialog between Israel and Syria, war erupts in summer, IDF comes to Bagdad and puts Assad on trial. What would happen next? Does the US expect Israel to occupy Syria and establish democracy there? All this sheer adventurism. Even though Israel is the true friend of the USA, it cannot heed the US in all respects. We have vital issues, such as peace with Syria. We must check what Assad means. We must start contacts with Syria.
