    Cudos to Harel for making a point which the regular Haaretz writers are afraid to make. They would much rather bash the Haredim than admit that the secular left has much soul searching itself to do. See for example http://www.haaretz.com/news/diplomacy-defense/idf-freezes-service-deferrals-for-volunteering-due-to-enlistment-drop-1.325078 which states, "Decrease in number of army recruits is due primarily to rise in number of ultra-Orthodox yeshiva students who don't serve at all" and does not mention the secular drop in service at all.
