Although it seems surprising in the Bobov context, most Orthodox Kehillohs elect their Rabbis. When our Rav announced he wanted to retire we spent four years choosing his successor. A committee made a short list who were invited to preach and give shiurim and eventually we held a meeting of all male members to elect our present Rav. Democracy is not that unknown in Judaism! The women voted through their husbands and the women got to meet the various prospective Rebbetzens!
