The mission did not achieve a few important objectives and was too limited in scale. First the IDF should have routed Hamas leaders in Gaza by sending commandos to capture the Hamas terrorist leaders hiding in the bunker of the hospital which were using patients as human shields. Second, the IDF failed to rescue Gilad Shalit, three the IDF left Gaza under the control of Hamas, and IDF did not complete it's mission by sending the IDF deeper into Gaza city. Most soldiers felt the operation was cut short. The IDF did an amazing job at protecting Gazan civilians from Hamas terrorist who did their best to inflict casualties on Gazans. This was the biggest success of the war. The humane way the IDF acted was historic.
