Of course the left are afraid of transparency because they get huge donations from left wing institutions and governments. Certainly far left parties like Meeretz rely on foreign donations to survive. But you can't exactly claim to be basing your policies on what the party believes is best for the country if the party is being funded by Peace Now. There is nothing wrong at all with calling for full and open disclosure at least then everybody knows whose payroll your on. In Israel where the bulk of the partIes in the Knesset are single issue parties who stand not because they believe they have any plans to run the country in their own right but to join coalitions and have a disproportionate amount of power because governments rely on these single issue parties to form a coalition. This bill doesn't go far enough it should be saying who you can or cannot accept money from. If an academic institution donates money ok but if a political group like Peace Now or a foreign government wants to give money it should be banned so we don't allow foreign governments or ideology groups to buy themselves seats in the Knesset. Foreign donations invites corruption.
