so true. Gordis offers nothing in terms of an alternative. Moreover, the article's tone seems to be "well, we've tried ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING, but can't for the life of us reach an agreement with those barbarians!" So let's take the Gordis approach and clam up, no dialogue, and certainly no concessions, until they decide to behave themselves. Because the current Israeli approach is working so well, right? Where do you think the "hatred of Israel that is systemic in Palestinian life" came from anyway? Question for you, Mr. Gordis: what approach would you take were YOU sitting in Gaza and Meshal and his buddies were in Yerushalayim (and Tel Aviv, Haifa, Beer-Sheva,etc.)? Don't forget, the Gaza package includes, at no extra cost, no freedom of movement, a naval blockade, and the occasional targeted killing, just to make things interesting. Would you sit quietly and wait for them to throw you a bone? So I agree, the situation is abominable, a horrible place from whence to begin dialogue. But NOT dialogue --- where will that get us? Newsflash: Israel ain't gonna survive much longer on this path, with or without US support.
