The only core issue in the conflict is the total refusal of the Arabs, Palestinian and otherwise, to accept Israel's legitimacy as the nation-state of the Jewish people. Israel was proclaimed as a "Jewish state" based on UN resolution 181 which called for its establishment as a "Jewish state". The Arabs' rejection of that call by the UN in 1947, sadly, is still in tact. When the Arabs come to terms and accept Israel's right to be, to exist as the nation-state of the Jewish people, just as they demand of others to accept a future Palestinian Arab state's right to exist as the nation-state of the Palestinian people, will we begin to overcome the core issue that is at the heart of the conflict. I therefore suggest that the international community concentrate on demanding of the Arabs to deal with this core issue instead of attempting to evade it.
