During the mandate years Jews and Palestinian Arabs lived in the same one state. Admittedly those amongst the Jews in Palestine who defended the one state or binational state model, were a tiny minority. Zionist policy, consistently favoured by the British - read Tom Segev's book "One Palestine, Complete" - eventually led to where we are now. Gideon states the facts in simple terms: the two state solution is a station long past. Israel would be foolish to think it can engineer another major demographic upset like in 1948 or that Palestinians would accept to live in bantustans without equal rights. There only objective solution remaining is the one state solution.
