The left-minded believes in productive governmental intervention when required, eg. socioeconomic involvement, financial contributions to institutions, social welfare when required, regulating the health and educational spheres, etc. ( look at the successful bailouts of auto industry, banks recently, etc. ) In Canada, we have a system where the criteria of the left doctrine is very much part of our society - some Americans call it Socialism - but it's not really, it's regulated safeguards to keep the country in equilibrium socioeconomically. The proponents of the capitalism or strictly venturing to the right is alien to Canada - this would be only amongst the minority elite - very small numbers here. In any case, the Canadian health system saved my left eyesight years ago. But concerning the Left in Israel - it's a similar Parliamentary system to that of Canada, England and the " Socialists" are supposedly the social/economic conscience of the populace - which the Right probably will always envy! It's a historical fact that there's no democracy without the leftists.
