Once upon a time there was flood of Anglo and other immigrants from Europe to the American Southwest onto what was part of the Mexican Republic. The Spanish speaking residents soon discovered they were an oppressed minority, some of them returned the Mexico, what was left of it, and those people that remained were second class citizens. A hundred and fifty or so years later the US is getting their comuppance with Mexican citizens crossing the border as if there was no border. For the record there is an anomaly where Mexican citizens, no matter how well off, middle class or otherwise have to apply for a visa to cross the border, while US citizens don't need any documentation other than their driver's license. Consider this--if Mexicans were Canadians, it wouldn't happen, but . . . I guess Canadians speak English and Mexicans speak Spanish.
