The British involvement in Afghanistan will continue, in spite of that terrible incident you mention. Afghanistan is a multinational UN operation, of which Britain is only one part. The British involvement in Iraq is, however, rapidly drawing to a close. There are about 500 soldiers holed up in Basra itself, in a garrison that is little better than Fort Apache. These will be withdrawn rapidly and without warning over the next week or so to the airport area. By the end of this year every last British soldier will be out of Iraq, leaving Bush to pursue his mad adventure all by himself. Gordon Brown is no Bush poodle. He is isolationist by nature and will distance Britain from both America and Europe (while making all the right public noises).
