Now Olmert has revealed himself to be no more than the Likud hack we feared that he was. Olmert has said he wants negotiations rather than unilateral action, but the truth is to be found in his statement quoted in the 7 May issue of the Jerusalem Times: "I personally continue to advocate the idea of the entire land of Israel as a heart's desire. I believe with all my heart in the people of Israel's eternal historic right to the entire land of Israel." If we allow it, no matter what the cost to Israel in wealth, lives and honor, Olmert will never find a Palestinian partner for peace. However they may try to conceal it, Olmert and Hamas share at least one thing -- their commitment to ethnic cleansing. Meanwhile, Abbas, who genuinely cares for his people, is ready to negotiate and then go directly to the Palestinians in a referendum. If Israelis want the continued support of the majority of American Jewry, they had better force their government to negotiate now.
