Olmert did not invented the plan or lay the ground work for it. So he does not have to be Sharon, just carefully follow in his footsteps. The plan will prove to be decent, but only if three things will occur entirely and methodically. Firstly, the assumption is made that Gaza was the first step of the plan, the announced continuation has been endorsed by the Quartet or specifically US beforehand, and upon completion will be satisfactory without pressuring Israel into anything else. Secondly, Olmert has to make sure the wall is completed and neither he, nor anyone else will veer of course, give in to any demands, and broaden or change the plan on the fly. It is his leadership skills in this area to stay the course internally and internationally that will be tested. Better be alive and not 'recognized' than recognized on the death certificate.
