It's cynical to see Israeli politicians fight each other for clear political gain. Olmert, whom one might like or not, is carrying on a genuine dialogue with Abbas, prodded bu the U.S. This makes him into a potential peace maker. Barak, who entered to the government in an important position of Defense Minister is supposed to back up the PM. Yet he makes every effort to show that he is a security person opposed to peace. This maneuvering is less than genuine. He does it to attract the center and the center right in case of elections.Barak was toppled because of his far reaching peace making; now he tries to present himself in a new light. All this for his own benefit. To add to this power struggle, Nethanyahu tries to boost his position by trying to reap credit for the undefined, "unacknowledged" Israeli action in Syria. Who is truly serving the nation and the cause of peace? Abbas is fooled by Olmert's empty promises because Olmert is in no position to carry them out.
