This battle might be about neutralising Hezballah. But Israel?s ultimate goal is to have a free and independent state for the Jews in Israel where they can at the very least live in security if not in total peace. Israel might win this battle, but the way they are going about it, will definitely put the prospect for achieving the ultimate gaol back several decades. The IDF have succeeded in putting Lebanon back 20 years, but Lebanon will be rebuilt in less time then this and definitely far sooner then true peace and security for Israel. I always thought of Sharon as a 2 move chess player at best. Olmert is definitely not quite that good. You know Olmert, it is sometimes prudent to lose a pawn to gain the queen (or a checkmate). But that requires long term thinking!!! Olmert seems to have this need to prove himself. I am afraid his minimal military background is showing through.
