It's a joke, it's an icebreaker - no harm was meant. And it's funny. Even if someone who doesn't belong to the ethnic group in question, members should still be able to laugh at it. I mean, heck, I get "drunken Irishman" jokes ALL the time - do you think I take offense? And even women jokes - as long as it's not involving domestic violence or something, I'll laugh. It's not meant as a threat, so, really - just laugh and spend your time worrying about more important things. Or enjoying yourself, G-d forbid. Also, since when is "Jew" a derogatory term? All the Jewish individuals I know self-identify as Jews, but maybe it's different in the NYC/New England area. If not "Jew", what is the appropriate noun (if there is one)?
