Of making many commissions there is no end, and much study is a weariness of the flesh (Ecc. 12:12) - Comment - Israel News | Haaretz Daily Newspaper

The IDF will have an internal commission of inquiry (which is always necessary in order to improve future actions. Now Netanyahu is appointing a commission of LEGAL experts who will tell him that everything was done legally. On top of that we will have an international commission which is required because so far Turkey would not be represented in anything, and which Israel will probably refuse to cooperate with for fear it will be one-sided (never mind that the Israel commission is one sided). These two commissions solve nothing, but may lead to the final breakup of relations between Israel and Turkey. So stupid and so easy to fix! I suggest that Israel recognize its responsibility of not using better and wiser means to stop civilians, which resulted in 9 dead. Offer the families compensation, and talk with Turkey about partial lifting of the Gaza siege, which is going to happen but will give credit to Erdogan to massage his ego. Don't throw away the solid achievement of having a Muslim ally like Turkey. I will recall the USS Liberty (1967) incident. Had Israel insisted, blaming it all on the ship would have been possible (and legal). But Israel recognized some responsibility and compensated the families. That is what should be done with Turkey and there is no need for lawyers to make peace. Will Netanyahu do it? Of course not, he is a Yahoo.
