We have now seen one of our Jewish citizens critically wounded by Qassam fire. We have also heard our Chief of Staff apologize for the (unfortunately normal in war) killing of civilian bystanders. Most of all we have seen our armed forces launch ineffective artillery barrages into unoccupied areas, wasting shells and making our country a laughingstock. Some readers have gone so far as to say that the Gush Katif expulsion accomplished something positive, citing the fact that not one IDF soldier has since been killed or wounded. Well, the mission of any country's armed forces is to protect its citizens (read CIVILIANS), and not itself, so there's really no accomplishment here, and also NO HONOR. The question remaining, however, is how to stop the Qassams, short of reoccupying the Gaza areas from which Jews were expelled, which would surely be a major black eye for the government in view of having destroyrd many people's lives for nothing. I have a suggestion. (to be continued)

The tunnel is at a depth of 26-28 meters, and the IDF still doesn't know its channel, except for the fact that it starts in Gaza and ends in the southern part of the Gaza border region on the Israeli side.
