Howdy ODP; I'm talking about ground incursons with ground troops (infantry and armor). Nobody can seize and hold ground from the air or sea. It makes no difference where the enemy is located. It could be a town, a city, mountains, jungle, or open countryside, but once the enemy position is taken, it should be held to prevent their return and not abandoned without a fight. Like GEN George Patton said, "I don't like paying for the same piece of real estate twice." And the infantry doesn't like it either. The infantry will take its casualties the first time without a murmer, but if they have to keep taking the same ground over and over after being ordered to withdraw from it and allowing it to fall back into enemy hands at no cost, then they get pissed off.
