To put even more scare into Israel's population and to come up with a “rational” for resisting Western pressure to adhere to promises to participate in the “peace process” with the Palestinians, even as it is and, thus, to establish a cover for further land annexation. Additionally, to allow Israel's Useful Idiots in the US to press for more money for Israel as "Israel is facing a period of instability". In that sense, from his perspective, he made an effective speech. It surely will do wonders for his relations with the West and Jordan, after he insults the former and undermines the latter. But, I believe, that was the intent, and a calculated one at that. What I am curious about is this - in parallel with his Mubarak's comment, shouldn't he be defending Assad, to be consistent at least?
