Rumors of The President's political death have been much exaggerated. PM Netanyanhu seems to have tied himself to the Republican Party, and The Party of "No You Can't" lost what it called the political Waterloo of health care reform. Quick note: the US has tried since President Truman to pass something approaching Israel's health care system, but Republicans have insisted each time that health reform leads to Stalinist gulags. The President doesn't care about details of Israeli politics, but deeply wants a foreign policy based on alliances and international consensus. The Republicans have insisted that the US ought to be a world empire, or "single point of world power". Thus, Bush II invaded Iraq with support from no one except Britain's Blair. Bush, Cheney, and Rumsfeld expected that the US military would overpower each middle eastern government in a benign domino effect. Obama is undoing this nonsense.

Israel's angry, bitter left must reclaim the language of hope

We leftists whine and complain, we only talk about how bleak and hopeless life is in Israel. We alienate all those Israelis whose support we need to bring political change.
