He doesn't care right or wrong, he is pushing for his reputation as a peacemaker, pressuring the side who'd likely to respond to pressure. He knows he is a very temporary player, wants to squeeze every single drop out of the opportunity to "rule". The price for this peace is not for him to pay, but American taxpayers and other countries.
