It all boils down to he'd rather get health care than get Mid-East peace -- not to mention, he can see he's not going to get anywhere with Israel. So it's return to what's been the default position since the Clinton Administration. Just agree that Israel is being completely reasonable and say 'tut tut, what a shame' as no progress is made. This would all be just fine -- if we didn't happen to be subsidizing Israel to the tune of several billion dollars a year. Our fall-back position is uncritical and lavish support for all of Israel's actions.
