If Obama wanted to make some giant waves such as the quest for peace has never seen before, the way to do it is to cut aid to Israel. This is the normal process used when a nation otherwise friendly with America is out of line to American policy. In order for Obama to credibly make such a move, it is important that he not be considered "anti-Israel". This could explain why Obama vetoed the settlement resolution at the UN. This was a big deal and he supported Israel in a very public way. In the current financial climate in which we see the Tea Party guys in the American congress trying to squeeze every cut they can from the American budget we know that the congress still supports Israel for reasons that we won't get into here. If Obama went to war with the congress over financial aid to Israel the congress would lose. They would lose quickly and they would lose big. Netanyahu would walk ten miles over fresh camel dung to avoid this scenario. My guess is that Obama is itching to pull the trigger anyway, so he will not give an inch. Nothing else exaplians Netanyahu's actions. Nothing else explains Obama's actions. Nothing else is more called for or more overdue.
