for PM Netanyahu to suggest that only Israelis have the best interests for Israel's security is somewhat incorrect, as U.S. security also depends on what develops in the Middle East. As his Defense Minister, Ehud Barak reiterated time and time again, the Obama administration has been most supportive beyond any other U.S. President and PM Netanyahu knows very well he faces the most pressure from his own hardline constituents. Political courage depends on him, solely him and no one else. There's nothing new in what Jeffrey Goldberg surmiises with regards to the disenchantment by the Quartet of PM Netanyahu's intransigent attitude towards stopping settlement construction in the West Bank - no other Prime Minister would have been behaving this way, certainly not PM David Ben Gurion or British PM Winston Churchill, that's for sure.
