The existence of the people and nation of Israel has been threatened since its inception. The possibility that Israel has nukes probably prevents an all out war in the Middle East to exterminate them. However, that only works with somewhat rational governments in countries like Egypt, Syria, and Jordan. In Iran, the government is led by a nut who expects and hopes to bring on the "end times". For Iran to be allowed to build a nuke would surely be apocalyptic. Iran's existence is not threatened by its neighbors. Putting aside whether Iran has the right to nuclear weapons, why does it need them?
