There are no Iranian nuclear weapons. The problem is the potential for Iran’s influence to move through Lebanon, and any new Palestine, while reaching accommodation with Egypt and Syria so that Israel will feel encircled, constrained and vulnerable, and the dream of a Garden of Eden as home for all the Jews in the world will hit the dust. Because this motive is too amorphous, it has to be concealed behind supposed threats to Israel’s existence. The truth is that no single nation really likes Israel so any sense of stability it ever enjoys will have to be maintained by threats and military interventions. It is worth remembering that Israel is still technically at war with Syria and the only alliances it has in the neighbourhood are shot gun jobs with undemocratic rulers.
