were, after WW2, never intended to be used. Their only purpose is DETERRENCE. During the cold war, it resulted in M.A.D. doctrine, that granted peace to Europe for over 5o years. anti-ballistic systems endanger deterrence, assuring the possibility of one power to survive the first strike. This why U.S. vehemently opposed U.S.S.R.'s "Galosh" system in the seventies, and the Soviets opposed President's Reagan "star wars" program. I think that Israel, since Ahmadinejad has often declared he doesn't care of 70 millions Iranians dying - provided that 5 millions Jews die too - has to completely rethink its strategy: apply to NATO membership, let NATO nukes grant Israel's second strike, and unilateraly renounce to a strategic arsenal of dissuasion that does not deter crazy fanatics suicide-aspiring dictators. In the present situation, Israel's WMD just are an excuse for Arabs to the nuclear race.
