The man most responsible for ushering in the worst era in our democratic history, a man who pretends to be a statesman and a leader and is neither, whose cabinet consists of the most right wing nationalist chauvinists we ever spawned, mouths these platitudes as if like King Canute he'll turn back the tide. And the joke is that he created this tide that threatens to subsume us all, much more than any current enemy, real or imagined. His government has made discriminatory legislation a past time and our democracy is a pale memory. Worst of all the corruption in public office is endemic and the electorate has lost faith in the entire political class. He deserves these words from history aptly aimed at a rump parliament which his resembles in more ways than one: You have sat too long for any good you have been doing lately... Depart, I say; and let us have done with you. In the name of God, go!
