As far as freedom goes... don't overestimate country which has religious police casing Intel factories for some late Friday night geeks still pouring over their tables. Sure, Israel is proud home of more Noble Laureates per household than any other country. But then you ought to recall that they all finished their Moscow and Leningrad Universities before coming to Israel. The fact is, in 70 years of her existence Israel hardly raised 1 man of recognized talents and achievements with own resources. So, my concern is not whether Israel needs to improve or not. In my mind it is preposterous talk, particularly for English speaking press with regards to Hebrew speaking nation. But precisely what you are praising Israel for. Israel has not shown progress, as you portend, and usually it means that it lacks freedom for a talent to grow. Or in cruel language of experts, a country with brainwashed population and limited potential to grow.
