1982: Israel invades Lebanon. AIM: to destroy the PLO. RESULTS: PLO was NOT destroyed; atrocities & massacres of thousands, lead to the CREATION of the resistance movement: Hezbollah! 11 years later peace treaty with PLO, Hezbollah drives the IDF out in 2000, but Israel kept L. Prisoners & Shebaa Farms. 2006: Hezbollah kidnaps 2 Israeli soldiers to trade prisoners. Unlike 2004, Israel refuses peaceful trade, and invades Lebanon. AIM: to "destroy Hezbollah" and secure the release the 2 soldiers. RESULTS: soldiers not released, Hezbollah NOT destroyed, 1000 or so Lebanese civilians and 10's of Israeli ones killed, unprecedented infrastructure destruction in Lebanon & definitely Israel had it's share. Questions to Israel's government who chose violence over negotiation: Will another group rise as a result of Lebanon's destruction, just like Hezbollah rose? Will resulting hate grown on both sides bring Israel peace? Does Israel's choice of violence really bring Israel security?
