Netanyahu may be incompetent. But Gilad Shalit's freedom in not a matter of incompetence. It is entirely a matter of political will. As Sarid points out, the price has been known and has not changed. The Netanyahu government does not have the political will to either pay the price or offer an acceptable alternative. And Cosmo, Shalit was captured while enforcing the Siege of Gaza. That hasn't been lifted either, nor have the hundreds of hostages Israel took to exchange for Gilad Shalit been freed either. There is no shred of decency on either side. Hence the standoff.
