Noone in the current US government signed the NATO charter. Does that mean the US is no longer a member of NATO or that there is even a chance of us leaving the alliance ? If an agreement is actually negotiated and finalized it wil be more than just a document signed by Abbas and Fayyad on the Palestinian side. They are committing the government of the State of Palestine (to be established) to an agreement which would hold until one of the sides violated the terms of the agreement. Israel can only object to this if they have no intentions of living up to such an agreement. This does seem to be an Israeli poitical tool however since after negotiations with the Palestinians stopped because of Cast Lead to restart them the current government refused to begin where things had left off but said that everything had to begin again at page one. They would not honor commitments and decisions made by another Israeli government.
