This is a terrible development - with all the justifiable criticism we face, apartheid is not acceptable. Yes what we do in the W Bank is apartheid and that our government condones it, makes the government party to an apartheid system in the W Bank. We are approaching the brink of an ethnic conflict with the government's "protection of our heritage" but we haven't tipped over into its abyss just yet. Worst of all is the totally disinterested attitude of the majority of Israeli voters, who because of a total of lack of education in civic responsibility in democracy - needed because so many Israelis did not come from democratic societies - abandon any ownership of government and political process the minute they leave the polling booth. And those who have fought academic boycott now are neutralised by Barak's granting Ariel College university status, making accusations of apartheid harder to deflect. It'd much simpler if we just annexed the W Bank. Guess why we don't?
