... they were able to negotiate a peaceful settlement to a war that had been going on for generations. They didn't do it by claiming they had a right to Belfast, but that they had a responsibility to the people of Belfast. Peace was achieved when they accepted full responsibility for Catholic and Protestants in NI and realised that even the perception of inequality between the two people would start war again. So they took active steps to ensure that any and all animosity between the two people that made up NI was condemned and took action against whichever side jeopardised peace, unionist or republican. Then again, they were serious about peace.
