You ask a question that deserves an answer: "By what virtue does Israel claim legitimacy?" All the world, through the United Nations, give Israel legitimacy. Whether or not you consider UN a virtue is another story. We might even find common ground. The whole world got on board with this action, except the Arabs. They met nascent Israel in 48 with bullets. Several times since,Israel had to defend its very existence. Being given soil already occupied by a hostile (the people are not so hostile, it that they are being served by incompetent and hostile leaders) is a very difficult situation, and Israel has been doing the best that could be expected. Jews have flourished wherever they have been allowed to. They have over the centuries given more to mankind than any other identifiable group in medicine, engineering, mathematics, business, humanities. They have paid their dues. It it not up to some ill-informed Hoosier like Norman Elliott to ask such an impertinent question.
