Given Iran's refusal to fully comply with the NPT and it's Additional Protocols the protests from Iran are laughable. That just earlier this year Iran was calling for such a conference is a hoot! Of course it is far too late to keep the Mideast from becoming a 'nuclear free zone', but the fact that oil is running out and most nations are either proceeding with nuclear power or studying it does raise the issue of proliferation. The question of producing reactor fuel and processing spent fuel become critical. Who is going to do either in the region? Many issues need be addressed and now is the time to do it. Too bad the current government of Israel is incapable of taking any bold action for such might be necessary. Not eliminating it's arms, but it might be best to join the NPT and cooperate with other nations in the region under the aegis of the IAEA.
